The network awards season is in full swing, which is very evident today as we have SBS airing their Entertainment Awards and MBC their drama awards. Out of the two programs SBS ‘s entertainment awards, at least for me, stole the show (pun intended)- Running Man airs on SBS so this is the go to awards show for RM nominations.
The 2012 awards did not disappoint. Yoo Jae Suk took home the coveted Daesang (which is essentially the grand award) for his work on Running Man. A quote from his acceptance speech:
“Since I also received a big award earlier today, the Viewer’s Choice Popularity Award, I don’t know what to say. I didn’t even imagine that ‘Running Man’ would receive as much love as it does. I’m thankful to the viewers, cast members, and the producers who stuck with the program when it was on the verge of being cancelled.” he said. “With this in hand, I’ll run even harder. Even though we’re having a tough ratings battle right now [against competitor programs], I think the real competition is the ability to deliver laughs. That’s all I will think about.”
His win this year put him in the record books, he has won a Daesang every year since 2005 (not all at SBS, he has hosted and does host programs on KBS and MBC as well). As humble and hard working as this man is I have a hard time thinking of an MC that would deserve holding this record over Yoo Jae Suk.
The nation’s MC was not the only RM cast member to receive an award- Gary and Ji Suk Jin (who famously were the only cast members to not win at last year’s awards) took home the Excellence Award (Variety Program). In addition Running Man swept the viewers choice awards, winning for Popularity Award (Yoo Jae Suk) and the Program Award.
Congrats Running Man and thank you for continuing your variety greatness! Here is looking forward to what you bring in 2013.
Now, see below for pics of our favorite name tag rippers as well as the PDs as they attend the awards (props to Gary and Ji Hyo for walking the red carpet together- do they know how happy they made Monday Couple fans?):
Once again, another reminder that I really need to stop what I’m doing, and watch RM!! Part of my new years resolutions… *if I made resolutions*… which I’m seriously thinking of breaking my non-resolution making habit, just so I can make myself watch RM. Sound good? 🙂
Good…I think it is great! Best New Years resolution ever:-)
